What is it:

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally accredited course, recommended by business in the community here in the UK. It has been designed give an understanding and spot the signs of mental health, break the stigma around it and learn how to provide help on a first aid basis.

As well as developing your mental health awareness, you will be taught a set of skills to allow you to offer guidance and support to someone experiencing a mental health condition.

At Better Pathways, we recognise the importance of this course and are delivering them to anyone aged 16+.


On the 2 day course you will learn how to:

  • Give your team the tools to keep themselves and their colleagues healthy
  • Encourage them to access support when it’s needed, for a faster recovery
  • Empower people with long term mental health issues to thrive at work
  • Build a supportive culture around mental health which will reduce sickness absence, staff turnover, and stigma
  • Help someone who is dealing with a mental health issue
  • Guide someone towards proper professional help

How much will it cost:

2 day course price is £175pp + VAT – (MHFA England have a RRP £300+VAT pp however as a mental health charity we subsidise this rate and offer the training at a cost of £175+VAT pp).


Half day course price is £95pp + VAT-  (MHFA England have a RRP £125+VAT pp however as a mental health charity we subsidise this rate and offer the training at a cost of £95+VAT pp).


Youth One day course is now available at a cost of £109pp + VAT (MHFA England have a RRP £200+vat pp, however as a mental health charity we subsidise this rate and offer the training at a cost of £109+ VATpp). 


What you will get:

On completion of each course, you will receive a certificate from MHFA England which is internationally recognized.

All our MHFA courses are recognised and accredited but participants will be required to complete either or both of the two day course to gain the accreditation of Mental Health First Aider.

You will also be given complimentary learning resources including a workbook and MHFA manual.

MHFA courses we offer:

Two Day Adult & Youth:

The 2 day courses come with a manual and workbook to support attendees during the session and after. It is an in depth understanding into what is mental health, coping with stress and stigma along with different sections including depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, self-harm and suicide.

One day Youth Champion:

This course provides teachers and frontline professionals working with young people aged 8 to 18years, the skills and confidence to spot common signs and triggers of mental health issues as well as knowledge to help over a range of mental health topics including depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders and more.

Half day Adult:

This is a 4 hour session which covers a brief overview of many elements of the full two day training, but with a focus on spotting the early warning signs of mental illness, coping with stress and the stigma around mental health and poor mental wellbeing. This provides a guide to support someone during a conversation surrounding their mental health and wellbeing.



Bespoke Packages:

These are  courses we are able to adapt to meet with the individual organisation or business requirments. If you want to focus on a particular area we can adapt the training for you.

This bespoke package allows you to hold the course at a time, date and place that best suits your needs, anywhere in England. We aim to meet your requests, to make it easy as possible for you.


Where the training happens:

We offer a range of training sessions in our head office in Central Birmingham (walking distance from New Street Station) for groups of up to 16 people for the two day MHFA course.

We are unable to accomodate for any numbers above this at our premises, so we are happy to go out to organisations and businesses to deliver in-house training to suit the amount of people it is required for.
