Job Success with Jon's client!
Our Mental Health Advisor Jonathan has a good news story to share from one of his clients!
Jonathan works closely with people experiencing mental health to help support them into employment. He helps clients by discussing what kind of the work they are looking for, which is then followed by job searching, CV sessions, interview prep and tips and much more.
K has now managed to secure a job in Bullring as a Sales Assistant thanks to Jonathans support and assistance! He phones the K once a week to give him check how he is getting, to provide ongoing support after finding employment!
Here is what his K had to say about the whole experience.
“I would be lying if I said that on my first visit to Better Pathways I wasn’t a nervous wreck. In fact, I was far worse. My experience with Jon Gibbs has been a pleasant one as he was quite understanding to my predicament and related to my feelings of anxiety in an unknown situation.
He listened to me patiently and then asked me my goals for the future then proceeded to plan out an action list for me so that I could complete in simple and easy to understand bullet points. To which each task was broken down on what to do and an agreement was made. He also reviewed my CV and gave constructive criticism on what to improve as well as advice for interviews.
After my appointment Jon has phoned me to keep in contact as a means of keeping up to date with my progress but also informing me of jobs he’s been searching that would be suitable for someone like myself as well as othering advice on interviews.
Jon Gibbs has been a wonderful help for me finding a job and continues to keep in contact just to make sure I’m settling in my position well.”
We offer a range of different services to help with recovery and employment, so if you can relate K’s story, please get in touch with us and you will be put through to a member of our friendly team.

Thrive into work programme leads to job starts!
Rishi, Team Leader of our Thrive into Work programme has been working alongside people experiencing mental ill-health to get them back into work.
One of his clients was Lucergia Ferreira, who met the team at her local library during a promo event. Lucergia had been out of work for several months and experiencing signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression ahead of signing up to this programme with Better Pathways.
She has a background in waitressing and bar work but wanted a role that would fit in with childcare and her studies in Child Care. Following engagement with Thrive into Work, Lucergia undertook a 2-week course in cleaning management and health & safety with a key training partner. She went on to secure a job role with a large retailer as a cleaner, working 14 hours per week!
She is very happy with the outcome and enjoyed working with our friendly team to secure a job which works around her commitments.

Paul Frost- Volunteer & Service user at Better Pathways
Paul has been attending a range of the volunteering workshops and social enterprises within Better Pathways for over 4 years. He is now based at Better Assembly services in our main Digbeth site which offers a social environement for people and works with packaging solutions.
“I like coming here as it is a good friendly environment, it has given me the chance to make a group of friends and people are very welcoming like one big family. It gives me a motive to do something and it helps with many different things such as depression, anxiety and building confidence. I enjoy myself in this environment and it gives structured routine for my life and this keeps me going. Through Better Pathways I have had the opportunity to meet new people which I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise.
All the management are helpful and make it a better place to attend. They make it easy to talk to them about any problems and support you all the way. I have learnt many skills here from all the training I have completed and everyday is different. The family environment in Better Pathways has brought enjoyment in my heart.
This is something good for me and other people should consider coming here if they are experiencing from mental health, this is a place for them which they could benefit from as I have.”
Quote from Paul- The only person that can change you is yourself.
Farewell to Andrew!
Andrew, who has been using Better Pathways services for over a year and half is now moving forward with his journey!
It is such an achievement to see Andrew being able to change his life with confidence. First starting with us he was scared and worried, but he grew a social circle of friends through Better Pathways and this helped him. Over his time here, Andrew has learnt many skills, made a group of friends and built his self-confidence so he can now start a college course which he wants to do.
‘When I was in hospital I was placed at Better Pathways. Whilst I have been here I have been able to move forward in life. I am now starting a new chapter of my life at Bournville college doing an Independent Living Skills Course. The skills I learnt at Better Pathways will help me in college and beyond. I will come back and visit to volunteer during holidays. I am very thankful to all the staff and everyone part of Better Pathways.’
We love to hear when people use our services and can turn their lives around, as we are here to help and support them. We all wish Andrew the very best of luck with his future!
